Rime Shedra NYC Celebrates its 20th Year!

Rime Shedra NYC was established in 2004 to provide access to the vast treasures of Buddhist wisdom in advanced Buddhist texts for those who wish to progress further in their understanding and practice of their profound teachings. Over the past two decades we have presented almost 60 courses, attracting a diverse community of both practitioners and scholars eager to deepen their understanding and apply these teachings to their everyday life for the benefit of the world.

Our curriculum covers four of the traditional five shedra topics, including Abhidharma (the elements of experience), Pramana (Buddhist epistemology), Madhyamaka (the middle way view of the nature of reality), and Marga (the path), and includes Bhavana (meditation) instead of the traditional Vinaya (monastic discipline). Courses consist of usually 10-12 weekly classes conducted in the style of slow reading, with a focus on textual analysis and meaningful discussions. Our website hosts recordings of classes, syllabi, sourcebooks and a wealth of related materials, altogether fostering a dynamic learning environment that encourages active participation and exploration.
