Cittamatra and the Shentong View

In recognition of the central importance of the Shentong View, or Empty of Other, in our tradition of Buddhism, this third segment of the Radical Rejection course will include the presentation of the Shentong teaching and how it is different from the Cittamatra, or Mind Only, view. We will be using the presentation on both Cittamatra and Shentong from Jamgon Kongtrul’s famous Treasury of Knowledge with commentary by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche.

In addition, we are thrilled to announce that the Venerable Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche has agreed to present two talks in conjunction with this course on the topic Distinguishing the Shentong View from Mind Only.

This is the third segment of our five segment series called Radical Rejection: Parting from Extreme Views about Reality, on the Introduction to the Middle Way by Chandrakirti, with commentaries by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and Mipham Rinpoche. This segment will focus on the refutation of the "truly existent mind" promoted by the Cittamatra, or Mind Only, view, and how this view is transformed in the Shentong Tradition of Tibet. Created by Derek Kolleeny, additional teachers of this segment will be Michele Laporte and Nancy Murphy. For graduates of SSBS or equivalent.
